Major League Soccer and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol today unveiled the participating teams, venues and schedule for the 2008 edition of SuperLiga. Four top MLS clubs -- D.C. Major League Soccer has announced that the four teams with the best regular season records in 2007 -- D.C. United, Chivas USA, Houston Dynamo and the New England Revolution -- will represent the League in the second edition of SuperLiga, to be played over the summer. The four teams to represent the Mexican First Division, as well the full 2008 SuperLiga schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks.

The SuperLiga final between the LA Galaxy and CF Pachuca came down to overtime penalty kicks, where the defending Mexican champions prevailed 4-3 over David Beckham and the Galaxy. Pachuca takes home the US$1 million winner's prize.

With the SuperLiga final on the line, Mexico’s long-time antagonist stepped up to the penalty spot. But unlike the fate that usually meets El Tri, Mexico’s best club overcame the USA’s top ace.

It was nearly five weeks ago to the day that the Los Angeles Galaxy opened up their SuperLiga campaign against CF Pachuca of the Mexican Primera Division, a game the Galaxy won 2-1. On Wednesday night, the same two sides square off in the championship game at The Home Depot Center with $1 million on the line.
